During this winter sports season, a lot of teams had to be shut down for days or even weeks due to athletes testing positive for Covid. All the sports but cheer and girl’s hockey were shut down. The boy's swim team had to be shut down for a week after they went against Sun Prairie. When athletes started to get Covid there were over 30 cases in the building. Every single athlete was affected by having to sit out for games and practices, especially seniors, with it being their last high school season.

Coming back from quarantine some athletes have said that their performance was not their best after and would easily get tired. When asked how their team handled the situation of being shut down an athlete said that “I think we did a pretty good job of making sure that anyone that tested positive stayed home and quarantined not only until they tested negative but also until their symptoms were all cleared. We did have a few people who probably should have stayed home due to exposure but they did test negative multiple times.”

A big problem to why a lot of athletes that were sent home during school hours is being in close contact with someone who tested positive and still came to school, risking other people’s health. “They're very selfish, and need to take in consideration how many people they're exposing to something that could be preventable by staying home. Especially knowing they're positive it doesn't make sense why they come, they're endangering the people around them who will in turn take it home or continue spreading it to others,” said senior Crystal Macho.

Another problem is when they don’t wear their mask property and would have it under their nose or not even covering their mouth. “I feel like we definitely had times where we could have done better especially with getting the masks all the way up over our nose but we definitely had our masks on anytime we were not competing. Especially if we were at a different school,” said an athlete.

Athletes are hoping that in the spring season, we will not see as many sports getting shut down, allowing them to have the seasons they deserve.
