Almost every college freshman has to move into a dorm room or apartment during their first year. Many people are unsure on what they need to bring to their dorm or apartment and many people end up having to buy things while they are in college. Here are a few items that are essential to have in your freshman dorm:Shower caddy, and not mesh. This gives you a place to put all of your shower stuff if you do not have a bathroom in your dorm.
-Laundry basketpack that you can carry on your back. You’re not going to want to carry your basket all the way to the laundry room. It’s easier to load it onto your back.
-Mattress pad. You don’t know who has previously slept on those mattresses, plus you don’t want to be sleeping on cardboard.
-A bathrobe. Again, if you do not have a bathroom in your dorm you’re not going to want to walk through the hallway in a towel…
-Shower shoes. Those showers are nasty, even if they look clean. Please get some.
-Extension cords. You’re going to be plugging multiple things in at once, and the two or three outlets in your room aren’t going to cut it.
-A little vacuum or broom. Whether you’re living in a carpeted room or hardwood room, you’re going to need a vacuum to clean stuff. The same goes with a broom.
-Blankets because it’ll get cold no matter what.
-A calendar and planner. You’re going to have a lot of stuff going on between classes, clubs, social life, and sports if you’re in one.
-If you are going somewhere where there’s a lot of snow and or it gets really cold, you’re going to need hats and gloves. I promise you’re not going to want to walk to your classes in the freezing cold without layers.
-A minifridge and microwave. You’re not going to eat from the cafe three times a day every day. Make sure you have somewhere to store and cook extra food. You will have to make sure these are ok with your college because many schools do not allow microwaves.
-You’re going to want some sort of plates and silverware even if you don’t have access to a kitchen. Again, you will not be eating from the dinning hall for every meal, so you will want plates and silverware so you can eat in your dorm.
-Some sort of bookshelf to keep your textbooks and other school supplies should be in your dorm room as well.
-You’re going to need to find a lot of storage items too. Some of those dorms are tiny and some of y’all got a lot of stuff…
-Lights. Get some lamps or fairy lights or something to brighten up your room other than the lighting from above.
-Get a water filter. That dorm water or apartment is not gonna taste good. Get a Brita to make sure you’re drinking good clean water.
-Command hooks. Obviously you can’t put nails in the walls of your dorms, so command hooks are a good item to hang stuff on. Just make sure they are not going to pull paint off the walls.
