Dear Increscent welcomes all student questions regarding a number of topics including (but not limited to) school, friends, relationships, or clubs. Questions may be sent to bmhs.increscent@gmail.com or hand-delivered to Mrs. Fink or the editorial staff. We publish them anonymously. For each individual question the editorial team will collaboratively answer them candidly and thoroughly. Do you think the masks will be required all year?

Yes because Covid numbers are still high. Don’t tell the Proud Boys though, they might have another protest.

Does Beloit Memorial still have a bad reputation?

That’s a tricky question. A bad reputation to who? The City of Beloit, the upper class, the state, the world? There are students that are trying to make a change, but the state still thinks we only deserve one star.

Why is Memorial’s top priority to make sure we’re safe, comfortable and heard, yet do none of those things?

Good question. The Youth Risk Behavior Survey was recently sent out, and despite this, what action has been taken to make the students of BMHS feel more safe? More cared about? They are fond of lip service to diversity, lip service to keeping students safe, and lip service to social justice, but when have you seen this? When have your friends seen it?

Why can’t we get any reception in the lunchroom?

Because you’re in the basement, in a big cinder block, forehead.

Can you use the weight room to workout after or before school?

It’s currently reserved for sports teams, to our knowledge.

What will the school do to keep LGBT+ safer in the school? I have had homophobic and transphobic words said to me, and I think that should be fixed.

Email admin. Sadly the school does not pay as much attention to things like this, but they need to make a change.

Are there any famous people who went to BMHS?

There are many notable alumni, most are athletes. There is one semi-famous journalist, Jeff Gage, who was once a writer for the Increscent. He has worked on Rolling Stone, VICE, Billboard, and more.

How does photosynthesis work?

There are two reactions, the light-dependent reaction and this is used to reduce molecules. These molecules are then used in the Calvin cycle (also known as light-independent reactions) where carbon fixation occurs. This generates carbs to be used in cellular respiration for ATP production.

Since sports are now allowed to unmask while playing, does this mean that vaccinated kids will be able to unmask?

No, you come into contact with far too many people throughout the day. Vaccination does not mean you cannot carry and spread the virus. So wear your mask please.
