Dear Increscent welcomes all student questions regarding a number of topics including (but not limited to) school, friends, relationships, or clubs. Questions may be sent to bmhs.increscent@gmail.com or hand-delivered to Mrs. Fink or the editorial staff. We publish them anonymously. For each individual question the editorial team will collaboratively answer them candidly and thoroughly. Let us flex our journalistic skills by offering real-student answers to real-student questions. Please continue sending your thoughts!
Where are we before we exist?
We suppose that depends on your worldview! In a way, we are nothing before we are something. Maybe that means we are a puzzle of genes waiting to be put together, maybe that means a soul waiting for a vessel, maybe we are stars that explode before becoming human. With infinite possibilities, who knows?

Is the soccer team good?
If you mean whether they win many games, they do pretty good!

Why can’t seniors eat outside?
Mostly bewcause of hooky playing and reckless behavior. Major bummer, but that’s what was decided.

Why are kids so reckless, devious licks?
Our guess is that it was a way to try and find humour despite the fear of death that has been magnified by the pandemic of a deadly disease. Things became more extreme, and ended up causing major problems for schools and students.

Why should parking at our own school have a fee?
The City of Beloit manages the parking lot. The fees students pay are used for maintenance, such as snow plowing, cleaning, and security.

Why don’t we have more about different cultures in high school?
Good question! Bring the topic up to administration when you get the chance! Having presentations done by people from different cultures to educate the student body would be incredibly beneficial.

Would it be at all possible if BMHS can have boxing as a sport?
We unfortunately already do at lunch and sometimes even throughout the day. It’s just not school sponsored.

Why is it when guys are called “ladies” it is degrading, but when girls are compared to a male, girls are supposed to take it as a compliment?
Due to thousands upon thousands of years of misogyny and deeply ingrained gender roles, society has an idea of what it means to be a woman. Weak, impressionable, not as smart, overly emotional, just overall inferior. Whereas to be a man is to be the opposite, to be superior. Therefore, when men are referred to as anything relating to women, its is considered and insult, because women are weak and stupid, and when women are called “the man” or something similar, it is generally considered a compliment, because men are superior. If we as a society change our ideas of what it means to be a woman and man, we can change the connotation of “woman” and “man”.

Will we have Winter formal ?
Keep fighting and find out. Though we most likely will.

Will open-campus lunch be restored ?
Only if the board of education decides so. With fights every day, it seems unlikely.

What does the school do about mask violations?
Teachers can technically write referrals, but there is no standard that is practiced to enforce them other than verbal reminders.
