Where did the name “Squeegee” come from?

I knew I wanted my name to be unique, silly but catchy. I didn’t really need much brainstorming. It was in 7th grade and one of my teachers was explaining what a squeegee was. For some reason that caught my attention. It has nothing to do with an actual squeegee.

What was the inspiration for your latest project?

Most of my music is freestyled, but I’m always experimenting with different styles of rap. Most rap is divided by cities (Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, etc). My last song was a Detroit type of style. I believe Detroit is taking over the rap scene currently and is also close to us, so it was perfect.

What was your favorite song to make?

Oh man, I probably don’t have a favorite. Every time I make a new one, it becomes my favorite until I make the next one. I like to say funny things that people usually won’t catch the first time they play it, but watching their reactions when they catch it makes the song more valuable to me.

What is the near future for Squeegee? Future updates? Do you see yourself still pursuing music in the next five years?

“Halloween” is my next song. It’s a spooky instrumental and lyrics referencing the holiday, one of my personal favorite solo tracks. Music will always be apart of my life—I’m not sure where I’d be without it. I’ll always make music in hopes of getting a bigger following and growing my platform. I always wanted to have a voice to spread my knowledge and let people hear what I have to say because it’s not just about the music, it’s about sharing a message with the rest of the world.

What is the process of recording and producing music?

The process is pretty simple when you’ve been studying and creating music since you were in 4th grade. All it takes is a boost of energy, my phone, and some Apple earbuds. I find a Youtube instrumental, download it, and plug it into BandLab where I record and mix my vocals. After it’s finished. I download it to my files. None of my music is written, well at least not anymore.

Who has been your biggest supporter throughout your journey?

My biggest supporter has definitely been my brother. He’s in the room when I’m recording and he’s hyping me up and helping me stay focused. He has all of my songs downloaded and knows more of my lyrics than I do. He even has a couple of songs with me. It’s always good to bond with him doing something I enjoy.
